AC Milan pondering Barcelona centre back signing

AC Milan are looking to add another centre back to their ranks and the Barcelona defender is one of the options considered.

The recent friendly matches of AC Milan have highlighted on old problem of the Rossoneri squad. AC Milan lost three out of three matches showing again clear shortcoming in defence. The AC Milan centre backs one again committed errors that led to goals conceded. In particular, Simon Kjaer and Fikayo Tomori showed to be far from their best shape.

Such a situation has put AC Milan in a difficult positions. The Rossoneri initially had planned to buy a young centre back with potential to take the place of the departed Matteo Gabbia who joined Villarreal. Now, Milan are considering the signing of an experienced centre back with a move for Clement Lenglet on the table.

The 28-year-old French centre back returned to Barcelona after a one-year loan at Tottenahm Hotspur. Lenglet was a regular starter at Tottenham but the Premier League club didn’t make his transfer permanent. However, the return of Lenglet to Barcelona is only temporary with both sides in search for a new destination.

In 2018, Barcelona spent €36 million to purchase Clement Lenglet from Sevilla. Today, the La Liga side are willing to let him leave for around €10 million. Lenglet has over 350 official appearances across France, Spain and England as well as 15 caps for the French national team. He could provide valuable international experience to a young squad like the Rossoneri.

Lenglet earns €3.6 million per season at Barcelona which would be in line with the Rossoneri’s budget. The French centre back has reportedly received an important proposal from Al Nassr while in Europe Juventus are monitoring his situation as well. In the meantime AC Milan are finalizing the transfer of Charles De Ketelaere to Atalanta.
